Our work methodology is inspired by the approach to ecological restoration articulated by Jean Two-Banyans from Auroville in “An Introduction to Landscape Reading”. The following excerpt sums up the manner in which Kamataru approaches its work and defines its role as an agent of landscape healing: “[...] Landscape reading leads to a system of diagnosis of the state of health of a landscape and its dynamism. An appropriate healing strategy can only be site-specific and the following are a few broad hints: The undisturbed natural system (and its efficiency in maximizing the inputs: solar energy and precipitation, and the processes of succession, diversification and biomass production) is the model of efficiency. The landscape reading and evaluation enable the landscape reader to gauge the whole landscape against this model used as a baseline. A healing strategy can be designed to minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive ones, taking into consideration the social constraints.”
